How to be mindful when you have no time for it?

If you lead a fast-paced life, finding moments of peace and tranquility can feel like another difficult task. The constant rush, endless to-do lists, and overwhelming stress can leave us feeling disconnected and burnt out. That's why it's so important to add some mindfulness to your daily schedule. If you are new to mindfulness— it's a practice of being fully present in the moment and cultivating a non-judgmental awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations. I know it may sound complicated or for some even impossible to achieve but don't turn your back away just yet. Mindfulness is all about practice. You don't need to master it - it's enough if you just try.


Benefits of Mindfulness for Stress Relief

By incorporating mindfulness into your daily life, you can experience a range of benefits, including:


  • Reducing Anxiety and Overwhelm: Mindfulness helps break free from the cycle of anxious thoughts and worries, allowing to find solace in the present moment.

  • Improving Focus and Concentration: Regular mindfulness practice can enhance the ability to focus, increase productivity, and improve overall cognitive function.

  • Enhancing Emotional Well-being: By cultivating mindfulness, you can develop a healthier relationship with your emotions, allowing to respond to challenging situations with clarity and compassion.


Simple Mindfulness Exercises

We've already established that your calendar is packed as is, but incorporating mindfulness into your life doesn't have to be complex or time-consuming. It's all about small but regular steps.

Here are a few simple mindfulness exercises to get you started:


  • Breathing Exercises: Take a few moments to focus on your breath. Notice the sensation of the breath entering and leaving your body, allowing yourself to be fully present in the here and now.

  • Body Scan Meditation: Slowly scan your body from head to toe, paying attention to any sensations or areas of tension. Allow yourself to fully experience the present moment without judgment.

  • Mindful Walking: When you walk or perform any other activity focus your mind on the physical sensations of each step—the feeling of your feet making contact with the ground, the rhythm of your breath, and the sights and sounds around you. That’s actually what mindfulness is about. “Stupid walk for stupid mental health” doesn't sound so stupid anymore.

Incorporating Mindfulness into a Busy Schedule

Now when you know what to do, here comes the tricky part- when. Don't worry, you don't need to block another time slot in your calendar to practice mindfulness. It's always good to follow the rule of "baby steps". Here are a few strategies to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life:

  • Finding Moments of Stillness: Take advantage of everyday activities to practice mindfulness, such as savoring a cup of tea, enjoying a meal without distractions, or simply taking a few deep breaths before diving into a task.

  • Meditate on the go: If you think that you don’t have time to start meditating - think again. You don’t have to sit cross-legged on the floor to make the meditation count. You can do it on the train, in between work meetings, or when waiting in the queue. Whatever feels comfortable for you.

  • Creating a Mindfulness Routine: Set aside dedicated time each day for mindfulness practice. It could be as little as five minutes (or longer if your schedule allows). Habits are very hard to establish and keep up until you do so. Choose a manageable goal and repeat it for 21 days - that’s how long it takes to establish a routine.

  • Utilizing Mindfulness Apps and Resources: Explore the abundance of mindfulness apps and online resources available. These tools can guide you through meditation, provide inspiration, and support your mindfulness journey. My personal favorites are:

I can personally vouch for the success of mindfulness practice. For the last three years, meditation helped me go through the most challenging period of my life and it still supports my inner peace during challenging moments. By incorporating mindfulness into my life I was able not only to reduce stress, but also enhance focus, and cultivate a deeper sense of presence and compassion.

It's still a work-in-progress for me but I cherish every little step as it comes. No pressure, no judgment.
